Super fast, super quiet, and super reliable, the new flash drives are a PC geek's dream come true - and right now, you can get a whopping 128 gigabytes for only $$$$FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS$$$!

Don't worry, though - in 5 years or so they'll be almost affordable, making today's spinning platters obsolete.

I got a 4GB thumb drive for less than $30 bucks at Fry's or somewhere the other day.

I remember paying over $200 for a 20 MEG hard drive just a few years ago. But then also I remember when the entire STATE OF INDIANA had acquired a total of 1 GB of magnetic storage (including EVERYthing in the state) and it was considered noteworthy enough to be bragged about it in the local newspaper (on a back page that only my brother and I, in the whole world, read).

These double EEPROM storage devices will become inexpensive just as soon as they learn how to build in planned obsolescence. Things with no moving parts have a nasty habit of not breaking fast enough to keep the manufacturers in business.

Hehe, "just a few years ago". How's that whole time dilation thing going?

Or maybe you're talking about geological time.
