I have to admit, and Zeke probably remembers this one, I fell for this scam 10 or 15 years ago. I got away for $150, though - most people seem to pay a lot more. And actually, the speakers weren't that bad. They lasted several years.

$150 bucks for a pair of speakers doesn't sound that bad, as long as they were decent sounding.
Posted by Raving Lunatic

They were acceptable.

I guess the guy sold them to me for his minimum cost, or not much more.

Posted by mrwilder

Haha... I bet he got them for less than $20 bucks.

Yeah, I didn't mean he sold them to me for what he payed for them, just that he took his minimum target sale price. In retrospect, judging from the mediocre quality, and the fact that they *were* brand new, I'd guess that he payed somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 or so for the set.

There's no doubt I let myself get ripped off. Just not nearly as bad as some of these people are reporting.

Hell, if you got something you enjoyed for several years for $150 bucks, you aren't doing too bad at all.

The fact that the guy was a prick probably makes you steamed, but, in all actuality it sounds like the speakers performed in a manner that would otherwise been acceptable for whatever price you felt like paying.

The only thing that steams me is the fact that, if I had not allowed myself to be pushed into something I didn't really want to do by a stranger, I could have gotten some much nicer speakers.

I'm not too steamed, though. It no longer matters - whatever speakers I'd bought would be dead and gone by now anyway. Just another lesson learned. I won't be buying any more speakers from guys in white vans - in fact, I won't be buying anything I don't specifically want or need from anybody at any time.

Good luck making THAT wish come true.
