Interesting

These multi-cellular animals are the size of some single-celled organisms. One type, the Bdelloid rotifers, can survive under *very* extreme conditions for long periods through a type of cryptobiosis called anhydrobiosis. This is just one unusual aspect of these fascinating little creatures.

Pretty fucking cool.

I think that one word says just about everything that needs to be said.

About

An entirely uninteresting non-place, except for two things. One is it's name. The second is that this happened there:

Somewhere in or about the town of Knockemstiff, there is a permanently foggy dip in the road known as Foggymoore. One night a lady and her daughter were driving home and happened upon a man lying in the road on his side with one hand propping up his head, smoking a cigarette. Instead of getting up and moving, the guy simply floated away, still in the lying-down position.

And for some reason, the fact that that once happened somewhere in the world makes me happy.

About

It's the day The Sun starts to return (which means the days stop getting shorter, at least - but that's also because it's the shortest day of the year). It's a good time to begin Saturnalia, and let's see... it's also Horus' birthday!

A warning, though: it's very uncomfortable, it kills dogs, and it might put you in a back brace. I'm just sayin'.

Come in, have a look around. We want you to feel like part of the family.

Just be careful not to get lost; it's not even a very nice place to visit at the same time every day, in the same place, for the same duration. You surely wouldn't want to LIVE here.

Sad

Sadly, the ultimate computer voice, Majel Barrett Roddenberry, died yesterday at the age of 76.

One bitch, though: What is it with these people (old ladies especially, it seems) who want bequests made to animal charities when there are so many starving *people* in the world?

Yeah, I said it. Read the comments and weep for America. The only thing I differ on is that I say guns are a GOOD thing; and, in fact, if they had them in Greece right now they could simply uh, discipline their government and the police. Of course, this is exactly why we must never give up our guns here in the former United States of America.

The whole reason for the second amendment, in fact.

This is just too amazing for words. It's a phenomenon called a 'dirty thunderstorm' or 'volcanic lightning'. Wow. And all this time I thought Mount Doom was a fictional place. I wonder where Sauron is? Oh yeah...

Technology

"The Detroit Free Press and Detroit News will become the first major metropolitan newspapers in the U.S. to end daily home delivery, the papers announced Tuesday."

"The dynamics of delivering information to audiences has changed forever due to technology,"

ehh.... I don't to have to start reading everything on the (I) internet. But, then, they stopped delivering milk, too. Alas.

About

After all this time, it still seems like many people don't know about this little tool that is probably just the most amazing, powerful tool ever invented by mankind. So far.

In such a way that the front doesn't fall off, please. And in an environment.

This incredible, steaming heapload of horseshit is like a Monty Python sketch.
